About us

The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering departments in the UK. The Department hosts internationally-leading research groups covering a broad range of activities across several sites. Our staff and students have diverse interests and expertise in physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science and mathematics. Our focus is on excellent academic research in identifying new technologies and methods for diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases using medical imaging, physiological monitoring, and the development of implanted devices. We also offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.We run a thriving Biomedical Engineering undergraduate programme and have recently had cutting edge revision to the diet approved. The programme is taught by a community of teaching-focused and research-focused staff, with synergetic skill sets.

About the role

Applications are invited for a Lecture (teaching) position, to contribute to the teaching provision in our Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate degree programmes. Duties involve multiple aspects of the delivery and organisation of the department''s biomedical engineering, and potentially other programmes, including classroom teaching, running laboratory sessions, supervision of practical work, planning, tutoring, and assessment. You will work closely with academics in the Department, and with appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs). You will also contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and will assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.This is a 3 year fixed term position.We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research, Teaching and Professional Services Staff. About you

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor\''s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering or a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subject, with experience of applying this knowledge to biomedical engineering contexts. The applicant will have experience of teaching using problem-based learning and laboratory-based learning, and experience of teaching undergraduate and/or Masters students. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and practical experience of using a broad spectrum of subjects as applied to biomedical engineering (e.g. CAD, finite element modelling, mechanical testing of materials, analogue and digital electronics, application of mathematics). The applicant will have excellent organisation and time management skills, and adaptability, with the ability to learn new topics quickly. They will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail. The role will require the applicant to run parallel practical/seminar sessions, to the same format and standard as the module lead and mark formative and summative coursework and exams. They will also supervise student projects and serve as personal tutor to a group of undergraduates.Your application should include a
