The Energy Market Analytics department houses the Optimisation and Trading Analytical Team, a dynamic group of 10 professionals based in Paris and London. Our team develops sophisticated market forecasting models and asset optimisation tools to support EDF Trading’s activities and optimise the EDF Group portfolio, focusing on electricity, gas, and LNG markets.

Position purpose

We seek an experienced optimisation analyst to contribute to our energy price modelling platform, initially focusing on medium to long-term power markets. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful applications within the business.

Main responsibilities

Model development:

Develop and deploy optimisation and data science models for energy price forecasting, focusing on medium to long-term power markets.

Analytical support:

Provide expertise on optimisation projects and promote quantitative approaches across teams.

Operational support:

Improve existing processes to enhance performance and reliability of applications.

Collaboration:

Work with internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project success.

Mentorship:

Support and guide team members.

Experience required

3-6 years in developing data science and optimisation algorithms in the energy sector.

Technical requirements

Strong knowledge of mathematical optimisation and/or machine learning.

Analytical skills and proficiency in object-oriented programming (Java, Python, etc.).

Understanding of business implications of technical projects.

Degree in a quantitative field (Math, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering).

Beneficial skills and experience

Experience with stochastic programming and optimisation solvers (e.g., CPLEX).

Knowledge of power market modelling and energy trading environments.

Familiarity with Linux, SQL, and noSQL databases.

Personality traits

Quick learner, proactive, adaptable.

Strong work ethic, excellent communication skills.

Team-oriented and customer-focused.

Hours of work:

40 hours/week with occasional weekend on-call support approximately every two months.
