Data Protection Manager

Overview
Data Protection Manager role at Financial Ombudsman Service. We are looking for an experienced Data Protection Manager to join our Data Protection Team. You will lead and develop the data protection team, providing assurance for data protection activities across the service and ensuring compliance with legal obligations to protect personal data.Contract: Permanent. Working hours: 35 hours per week (full time). Where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns; please indicate your preferred pattern in your application. Salary: From £62,000. Reporting to: Data Protection Officer. Location: London Docklands. Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.You will be an expert in data protection and act as the escalation point for complex and sensitive data protection and privacy matters, keeping up to date with best practices and latest developments to continuously improve data protection across the organisation.As a hands-on manager, you will coach and develop your team, share knowledge, provide feedback, and support senior leaders to deliver the organisation\''s wider objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Helping the whole organisation comply with relevant legislative and statutory requirements for data protection – including promoting good practices and raising awareness of policies and proceduresManaging our data protection awareness and communications programme, ensuring timely and accurate information is provided across the organisationUnderstanding how the data protection function performs against key performance indicators and collaborating with the DPO to influence the data protection action plan and report to governance committeesDeveloping and maintaining policies, procedures, notices and guidance to maintain a strong data protection culture and keep them up to dateManaging records of processing activities and ensuring accuracy and up-to-date documentationEstablishing and managing policies for data sharing; coordinating with information security and legal to ensure appropriate safeguards for restricted transfersProviding risk-based advice on DPIAs and data protection risks across the serviceManaging data protection complaints procedures and ICO investigations (excluding information rights requests)Monitoring performance, addressing issues, and responding to customer feedback and service complaintsProviding coaching and professional development so the team can continually improve information rights capabilitiesCreating a culture where the team is encouraged to deliver measurable improvements to customers
Minimum Criteria
Experience of managing a team of specialist data protection expertsDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of data protection legislation and the ability to apply it to individual requestsAbility to apply deep knowledge of data protection legislation in practical scenariosExperience in handling complicated and sensitive information quickly
Desirable Criteria
Influencing and persuading across stakeholders at senior levelsPlanning and prioritising in a busy environment with a focus on team resultsContinued professional development in data protection
