We play a leading role in the sector by bringing all types of independent providers together, supporting them to deliver great care to patients, and enabling them to make a positive contribution to UK healthcare. In 2024, IHPN won the Trade Association of the Year Award at the annual industry awards.

Our vision is for a thriving independent healthcare sector delivering great care to NHS and private patients.

The position of Director of Communications is a newly created role within IHPN that has been created to support member growth. The postholder will sit on the organisation’s Senior Management Team.

IHPN is a small organisation dealing with a wide range of issues at any one time and proactivity is key for us. This role will appeal to someone who enjoys generating ideas, stimulating debates and is generally willing to get stuck in. It will involve liaising on a daily basis with members, journalists, Parliamentarians and senior civil servants.

Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of IHPN’s communications work and oversee two existing team members to shape external and member communications in support of member and industry objectives.

Play a pivotal role in how we communicate with our 120 members across the UK, using the most effective and efficient methods of communication.

Engage with a range of audiences by liaising with members, journalists, Parliamentarians and senior civil servants on a daily basis.

Build confidence when engaging with varied audiences, be comfortable working at Board level and speaking in front of an audience.

Ideally bring a healthcare background or familiarity with the issues IHPN deals with and be agile in responding to them.

Be proactive, generate ideas, stimulate debates and be willing to get stuck in.

Qualifications

Experience leading communications activity and managing a small team.

Strong ability to engage with diverse audiences and to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.

Comfortable engaging at Board level and presenting to audiences.

Ideally from a healthcare background or with familiarity with IHPN issues.

Proactive, creative, and able to generate ideas and stimulate debate.
