Highly specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (Band 7)

OverviewThe post holder will assist the Team Lead in developing physiotherapy services within MSK outpatients. The role includes a large clinical caseload, clinical governance activity, supervision and development of Band 6 and 5 physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and assistant staff in the MSK outpatients setting. The post holder will also assist in coordinating a rolling programme of audit and training within the pathway.
Responsibilities
Undertake a substantial autonomous clinical caseload, including complex presentations, and prioritise own workload within the MSK outpatients pathway.
Provide clinical governance, review and develop service quality, and support supervision and development of junior staff, students and assistive staff.
Coordinate audit, outcome measurement, and training within the pathway; implement evidence-based practice and contribute to service improvement.
Produce comprehensive patient records, discharge planning, and liaison with referring hospitals or community teams for coordinated care.
Engage in teaching, supervision and competency assessment of staff and students; contribute to in-service training and programme development.
Ensure compliance with national and trust clinical guidelines and pathways; manage clinical risk and maintain professional standards (HCPC registration).
Participate in 7-day rosters when required and contribute to flexible working patterns across sites.
Lead or contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, pathway meetings, and management activities; lead on local pathway quality and safety initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
Current registration with the HCPC as a physiotherapist and evidence of CPD/ongoing professional development.
Relevant clinical experience in musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy and experience in teaching and organisational skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure and both in teams and independently.
Ability to assess, diagnose and manage complex presentations using clinical reasoning; knowledge of outcome measures and audit methodologies.
Experience in supervising and training staff and students; ability to develop and deliver in-service training and educational programmes.
