Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and dedicated physiotherapist to join our musculoskeletal outpatients team as a clinical specialist. This permanent post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and offers the opportunity to work within an MSK outpatient pathway, with a focus on clinical leadership, development of staff and service improvement.Responsibilities

ClinicalUndertake all aspects of clinical duties with a significant caseload as an autonomous practitioner, including complex presentations.Work at an advanced level and be professionally/legally accountable for a highly specialised caseload; set priorities for the local work area.Be responsible for own work and for the local pathway team, including clinical risk, governance, indications/precautions, and adherence to guidelines and protocols.Assess capacity, obtain valid consent, and operate within legal frameworks for management when capacity is lacking.Undertake comprehensive assessments and diagnoses using clinical reasoning and investigative skills; request appropriate diagnostic procedures under supervision as suitable to competency.Deliver physical treatment techniques with highly developed manual skills and formulate individualized management plans.Use recognized outcome measures to evaluate progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.Provide expert advice, teaching and information to relatives, carers and other disciplines to support treatment continuation and patient understanding.Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in line with Trust guidance.Communicate effectively with patients, carers and interpreters where needed; ensure patient-focused care and incorporate patient views into planning.Employ skills such as persuasion, motivation and negotiation to support adherence to treatment.Engage in discharge planning and provide timely discharge reports; produce comprehensive reports as required by other disciplines or agencies.Undertake extended scope roles as appropriate, supervised by the Team Lead, including delegated responsibility for complete episodes of care where indicated.Measure and evaluate work through audit, outcome measurement, and application of evidence-based practice; identify and initiate audit projects within the pathway.Promote clinical outcomes, monitor adherence to standards, and stay informed of developments in the specialty.Contribute to MDT collaboration and provide expert clinical advice for complex case management.Participate in 7-day rostering or future service patterns as required; ensure competence and supervise staff within the pathway.Education, Training and ResearchEducate patients/relatives/carers about the condition and aims of physiotherapy intervention.Maintain own competency through CPD, reflective practice, literature review and portfolio development; attend specialist training as identified in a personal development plan.Participate in peer review and contribute to uni-professional/multi-professional research initiatives.Provide regular training for designated pathway staff on local sites; implement new working practices with the Team Lead; prepare and contribute to in-service training programs; train and assess competency of staff within the pathway.Supervise and assess undergraduate physiotherapy students; collaborate with universities to meet degree-level standards.Provide teaching to other disciplines to ensure consistent patient care; support colleagues undertaking higher education, audit and research projects.Participate in mandatory/statutory training as required by the Trust and national standards; maintain HCPC registration and provide annual evidence upon request.Service ManagementManage day-to-day workload and maintain service levels within the local site; prioritise and coordinate information flow across the pathway.Utilise prioritising and time management to meet service needs; maintain open communication channels within the pathway and with other networks and experts.Participate in pathway meetings and other staff/management meetings; handle informal conflicts using negotiation skills.Ensure incidents, accidents and complaints are reported in line with Trust policy and inform Therapy managers as required.Monitor quality of care, promote evidence-based practice, and interpret professional/national standards to drive changes in clinical practice.Oversee safe use of equipment and review resource availability; manage cost/benefit in equipment provision for long-term use.Maintain accurate activity information to inform service delivery and evaluation; adhere to Trust and Physiotherapy service policies; undertake other duties as required by senior managers.Qualifications and Experience (Essential)

Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy; HCPC registration; postgraduate courses; clinical educators training.Comprehensive postgraduate physiotherapy experience, autonomous practice, and experience supervising staff; experience in audit and evidence-based projects; active participation in in-service training.Qualifications and Experience (Desirable)

MCSP; member of Special Interest Group; MSc or equivalent; managerial training; involvement in research and change management; presenting to MDT/academic groups.Knowledge

Specialist knowledge of evidenced-based physiotherapy for the designated pathway; knowledge of national guidelines and standards; understanding of clinical governance and NHS structure.Other
