Overview

Job Description

The Director of Studies on our summer programmes are responsible for the effective running of the language courses and the wellbeing of both teachers and students. They work closely with the Centre Manager to ensure the success of the programme. The Director of Studies will adhere to BSC Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies while working with us. They may be asked to participate in non-academic duties if the need arises. Accommodation and Meals are included in the salary offered.

Duties

The main duties and responsibilities are listed below:

Conduct induction for teachersCollect all student levelling data and group students into class levelsSetup weekly reports for teachers to completeMail Merge reports and certificate for studentsEmail certificates and reports to GLs for each groupSupport teachers with challenging situations; remain objectivePlan and Deliver language focused and engaging lessons.Cover duties as the need arisesFollow BSC syllabus and ensure teachers are doing soCheck teachers are submitting weekly planners and report on timeCarry out ‘pop-in’ observations on all teachers regularly.Be observed and receive feedbackConduct teacher observations and give constructive feedbackLine manage Senior Teachers – focus on developing their leadership skillsSupport teachers with lesson planning and deliveryPlan and deliver at least 1 INSETT sessionOrganise with graduation photos and project showcase daysLead the academic team and support the summer team as a whole.Conduct weekly academic meetingsOrganise and assist with placement testingBe in regular contact with and report to the YL Academic Operations ManagerReport any student absences to the welfare team/ centre manager/ GLsAssist the Centre Manager as needed.Attend induction held at the centreRemain professional at all timesComply with BSC Uniform Policy (BSC t-shirts are provided)Comply with BSC Centre rules and regulationsBe a positive role model

Child Protection and Safeguarding

To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with.Familiarise yourself with the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy.To adhere to the BSC Young Learners Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and BSC Safeguarding Policy.Ensure student ratios are maintained in accordance with site rules and BSC Young Learners Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.Complete BSC Safeguarding Level 3 Online before you arrive at the centreReport safeguarding issues if/when they occur

Qualifications and Experience:

DELTA or MA TESOL or MA linguistics/ other qualifications considered plus extensive experiences as a DoS on summer programmesAt least 4 years’ experience working young learnersHigh level of computer literacy, particularly MS Office, email, and use of databasesExcellent lesson planning skillsAdaptability and flexibilityAbility to work well in a teamAbility to remain calm under pressureEnthusiasm for summer school lifeRight to work in the UK/EU (depending on the respective centre)Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.Experience of British Council InspectionsCurrent First Aid Certificate is desirable
