Health and Safety Compliance Manager - VenusJoin to apply for the Health and Safety Compliance Manager - Venus role at Booker.

In this role you will provide expert, technical advice and leadership on all health and safety matters. You will support the Venus business in identifying and driving improvements that ensure a positive safety culture across the Booker Group and minimise risk to the business.

You will work in the Booker Food, Health and Safety team with a dotted line Head of Venus operations to ensure all Venus locations are fully compliant with legislation and policies across all areas of health and safety, and you will work collaboratively with the audit team, group safety teams and Venus management to monitor and improve safety standards.

You will assess risk to prioritise your time on issues with the greatest likely impact. You will support key stakeholders at all levels in understanding their responsibility for delivering timely outputs.

You will provide guidance to all Venus locations and teams as required; you will act as a subject matter expert for specific, allocated aspects that span all sites, and you will contribute to the development, review and delivery of improvement plans across the business to manage risk. The role requires timely responses to issues and proactive identification of opportunities for continuous improvement.

You will be responsible for

Health, Safety and Legal:

Site support: when visiting sites, review compliance with policies and procedures, provide expert advice, and support improvements where needed.

Investigations: review accidents, incidents and near misses; support site management in investigations as appropriate to risk level.

RIDDOR: lead the review of investigations to ensure root cause is identified and addressed.

Fire risk: review outputs from Fire Risk Assessments and support actions to address findings, collaborating with Property where necessary.

Site-specific controls: provide expert advice for local circumstances beyond generic risk assessments.

Pest management: review data and provide specialist advice to eradicate pest activity; manage contractor performance and enforce compliance.

Enforcement liaison: advise local management on enforcement contacts and actions; lead complex cases with senior leadership updates as required.

Permit to Work: ensure system is maintained across all sites via audits.

Inductions: ensure contractor/visitor induction documents are delivered and audited.

COSHH: ensure procedures are implemented and maintained for legal compliance.

Analysis and review:

identify opportunities to amend policies, procedures and training; review audit results and data to identify trends; support improvement plans; manage third-party service delivery; share risk insights with central teams.

Continuous improvement:

support safety improvement plans, act as SME for specific aspects, collaborate with training to develop safety materials, advise central teams on operational changes affecting safety, attend meetings to support continual improvement.

Customer Satisfaction:

provide expert guidance to keep sites safe and legally compliant, protecting customers.

Cost/Profit:

contribute to improvement plans that reduce costs related to accidents or contamination; work with stakeholders on cost-effective solutions.

You will need

Exceptional delivery through engagement of teams and senior leadership.

Ability to work in a team and independently; strong decision-making at short notice.

A hunger for continuous improvement.

Collaborative mindset and strong influencing skills.

Knowledge of UK health and safety and food legislation.

Health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma).

Food Hygiene qualification – Level 3 or above.

Self-motivation, ability to prioritise and manage own schedule.

Excellent written and verbal communication across levels.

Experience:

experience in a role with health and safety responsibilities; food safety experience; food retail/wholesale operations; accident investigations; proven ability to deliver results and build relationships with stakeholders.
