Senior Structural Engineer

DCL Consulting Engineers Ltd is a dynamic and growing Structural and Civil Engineering consultancy based in a beautifully restored Grade II listed office in Central London, just a stone’s throw from the Elizabeth Line and major TfL connections.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Associate Director to join our expanding team. This is a leadership role ideal for a Chartered Engineer with a strong technical background, proven project delivery experience, and a passion for guiding teams and growing client relationships.
As an Associate Director, you will take a pivotal role in project delivery, team leadership, and business development, helping to shape the future of DCL Consulting Engineers while working on a diverse and exciting range of projects.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage structural and civil projects as Project Director, ensuring quality, profitability, and timely delivery. This includes reviewing and verifying structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports prepared by junior engineers and technicians for accuracy and compliance.
Conduct client presentations, prepare proposals, and negotiate project fees and variations
Contribute to company strategy and represent DCL as an ambassador to clients and the industry.
Identify and secure new business opportunities, contributing to annual revenue growth targets
Undertake the structural design of buildings and other structures across all project stages, from concept to construction, in accordance with British Standards, Eurocodes, and relevant industry regulations.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced team members, supporting their professional development.
Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other consultants to deliver coordinated, practical, and cost-effective design solutions.
Attend site visits, inspections, and project meetings, offering engineering input during construction and resolving technical queries as required.
Assist with the preparation of fee proposals, project planning, and resourcing, contributing to the effective delivery of projects on time and within budget.
Ensure all work complies with the company’s quality assurance procedures and health and safety standards.
Keep up to date with changes in design codes, regulations, and industry best practice, and apply this knowledge to project work as appropriate.
Qualifications
Chartered Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural engineering consultancy
Demonstrated ability in leading complex building projects from concept to completion, including steel, concrete, masonry, basements, refurbishments, and new builds
Proven success as a project manager with a commercial mindset and client-facing capabilities
Ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative and inclusive way
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal
Strong track record in business development, client relationship management, and securing repeat work
High levels of self-motivation, accountability, and problem-solving skills
Experience with fee proposal writing, contract negotiation, and financial project management
Working knowledge of UK codes, design standards, and CDM regulations
A passion for excellence and continuous improvement in engineering practice
