Laboratory Services Coordinator - £32,617 p.a. + benefits

Overview
We have two full-time opportunities, one on a permanent basis and one a fixed term contract for a period of 2 years, which existing civil servants can apply for on a loan basis. All roles will be appointed on a merit order basis. These roles will be based onsite at our Science Campus in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. These roles can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.Attendance expectations: government departments and agencies are moving toward a minimum 60% in-office attendance. We are adopting a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month on site to enable collaboration with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs and may flex up to 12 days a month; some roles may require more frequent on-site presence.Who are we? The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhances and improves the health of millions of people daily through regulation of medicines and medical devices, backed by science and research. Infrastructure and Laboratory Services (IandLS) support the Agency by maintaining infrastructure, facilities and equipment and delivering efficiencies, savings and value for money.The Division has three departments:Facilities and Laboratory Services – day-to-day running and support of sites, laboratories and other specialised facilities, security, catering, cleaning, waste and 10SC liaison for the 10th Floor.Engineering – management of engineeringly complex buildings and infrastructure, adhering to critical health and safety requirements and responding to alarms 24/7.Specialist Project and Programme Management – management of the Capital programme, providing project management/engineering for building alterations, lab refurbishments (including high containment), acquisition, installation and commissioning of new plant, equipment and digital IT and special programmes.
The role
The role is responsible for the provision of essential Laboratory Services to Science and Research at the South Mimms campus.Responsible for the provision of clean, sterile glassware and equipment, decontamination of hazardous materials and operation, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.In addition, the role covers laboratory laundry, hygiene and washroom services. The role is an essential part of the delivery of Science and Research.Responsible for ensuring autoclaves and other critical equipment (e.g., industrial washers and sterilising ovens) are maintained, calibrated, validated and fit for use; manage loads for decontamination or sterilisation and resolve faults.Actively contribute to reviews of Laboratory Service provision, equipment, processes and procedures to identify improvements and efficiencies to reduce time and costs.Maintain good relationships with suppliers; organise, plan and coordinate contractors and engineers in laboratory areas, overseeing their work and ensuring compliance with site health and safety rules.Liaise with staff at all levels to address issues and problems, investigating and resolving equipment and supply issues.

Salary and benefits
Salary: £32,617 plus MHRA contribution of £9,449 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
