Overview
Locum Consultant in Clinical Microbiology and Infection at North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH), London. This is a 10 PA locum post joining a team of four consultants with a 1:5 out-of-hours on-call rota (category A rating at 5%). Applications are welcome from those approaching CCT as well as experienced consultants; job share or part-time arrangements are considered. The appointee will take on a co-Lead role to support colleagues and provide cross-cover when necessary.NMUH is part of the Royal Free Group and serves a diverse population across Enfield, Haringey, and surrounding areas. It provides a full range of adult, elderly and children’s services, with specialist centres including HIV, stroke, cardiology, haematology, diabetes, and orthopaedics. The microbiology and infection services collaborate with other departments to deliver patient-focused care.Responsibilities
Provide consultant and specialist advice for infectious diseases and complex infections within NMUH.Contribute to antibiotic stewardship and lead relevant clinical activities within the infection service.Participate in the microbiology and virology service delivery, including hub laboratory activities, laboratory practices, and site-specific processes.Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team activities and weekly collaborations (e.g., with UCH Virology) to discuss cases and genomic analysis.Provide cross-cover and on-call support as required and contribute to training and supervision of trainees and junior staff.Engage in strategic service development in line with the needs of a culturally diverse patient population.Qualifications
Member of the Royal College of Pathologists (or equivalent).Hold or be eligible for specialist registration, with either a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT or equivalent) or being within 6 months of award of CCT by the interview date.About the hospital
NMUH is a busy teaching hospital within London, with a strong focus on patient-centered care and collaboration across infection specialties. The site hosts one of the larger HIV centres in London and acts as a main tuberculosis treatment centre for outer North Central London.
