Overview
The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Community role with Saarthy Travel Solutions is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time, 30 hours per week, and the post is based in Gloucestershire. You will join our speech and language therapy team to further develop and deliver FEES, Tracheostomy and Videofluoroscopy (VFS) services and training pathways, across outpatient and community settings. We are a friendly, dynamic team with a strong focus on quality service delivery. The post is suitable for an experienced Band 5 therapist, an established Band 6 therapist with a passion to develop, a developing Band 6 or a return-to-practice therapist. We welcome applicants who wish to discuss part-time, flexible working patterns.Responsibilities
Provide Specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults in Gloucestershire. This may include patients with acquired communication, voice and swallowing disorders and may be across a wide range of settings including community hospitals, outpatient clinics or patients\'' own home or care home.Manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, seeking guidance from team leads as required.Supervise Speech and Language Therapy assistants or newly qualified SLTs.Work autonomously within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive electronic records.Participate in service improvement projects as indicated.Provide specialist differential diagnosis, clinical advice, and care plans/therapy to clients with communication or swallowing difficulties; implement specialist programmes where appropriate and provide second opinions to SLT colleagues as needed.Assess and analyse the type, severity and impact of complex conditions of speech, language, communication and swallowing impairments in a wide range of adult patients, through formal and informal assessments.Provide advice and second opinions to support the clinical management of clients within multi-disciplinary team decision making with patients and their significant others.Demonstrate clear communication skills when presenting specialist clinical information in both verbal and written formats, including sensitive situations such as end of life.Monitor and undertake quality improvement projects as service demands require, contribute to local clinical guidelines, monitor and evaluate clinical effectiveness using evidence-based practice and outcome measures.Maintain up-to-date and accurate case notes, both paper and electronic, in line with RCSLT Professional Standards, GHC Trust Policy and departmental guidelines.Adhere to and maintain the standards and guidelines as recommended by the RCSLT and the HCPC codes of conduct and practice.Attend relevant training and development to maintain and develop skills required of a specialist therapist, including maintaining HCPC and RCSLT registration; participate in regular supervision and annual personal development planning.Prescribe augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods and provide support, advice and training to clients, carers and professionals with the support of a highly specialist AAC therapist, both in-house and in specialist centres of excellence.Refer patients to other services and liaise with voluntary organisations concerned with the client group (e.g., Early Stroke discharge team, Parkinson’s Disease groups).Negotiate with patients, carers and significant others around individual case management, ensuring patient involvement in clinical outcomes.Attend departmental development meetings and provide clinical and line management supervision to colleagues, including Band 5 colleagues, assistants and students where appropriate.Qualifications and Requirements
Experience as a Speech and Language Therapist at Band 5 level, or an established Band 6 with a passion to develop, or a developing Band 6 or return-to-practice therapist.Current HCPC registration and appropriate professional registration; willingness to maintain up-to-date registration and, where applicable, RCSLT membership.Ability to work part-time with flexible patterns and commitment to ongoing professional development and supervision.Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to participate in service-specific training and development.About the Employer
