Role DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and optimise our maintenance and engineering operations within our fast-paced Flour Tortilla and Corn Tortilla Chip production facility.

This role encompasses full responsibility for engineering systems management, process optimisation, asset management, regulatory compliance, and team development.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

This role is critical to ensuring Health and Safety, Food Safety, Reliability and Operational Excellence.

This is a full-time on-site role based at our Coventry plant.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the operation and maintenance of food manufacturing equipment for Tortilla and Tortilla Chip lines, buildings, facilities and utilities including HVAC, boilers, compressed air, water treatment, refrigeration, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Ensure robust SCADA, PLC integration for real-time monitoring and control.

Robust CMMS ensuring excellent control of spare parts.

Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Monitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) across all production lines.

Project and Asset Management

Project Management including Capex and Continuous improvement.

Working alongside the Engineering Projects Team with installation and commissioning of new equipment ensuring compliance with Health and Safety and Food Safety legislation and Codes of Practice.

Develop and manage asset lifecycle plans,

Budgeting and cost control.

Oversee vendor and contractor management ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

Ensure compliance with Regulations including:DSEAR, LOLER, PUWER, OSHA, HSE standards, CDM - Construction (Design and Management) Regulations

Conduct risk assessments, safety surveys, and ensure compliance to LOTO and permit systems.

Quality and Safety

Maintain food-safe factory environment in line with HACCP, GMP standards.

Specify and maintain food-grade equipment, food contact surfaces, and lubricants.

Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive action.

Emergency Response Planning for engineering incidents.

Leadership and People Development

Coach and mentor engineering team, fostering cross-functional collaboration.

Manage performance and development.

Provide ongoing training and skills development for the engineering team.

Development of Engineering specialists

Implementation of Apprenticeship schemes.

Strategic Thinking and Innovation

Develop and execute long-term engineering strategies.

Champion automation, sustainability, and energy efficiency initiatives.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

Report engineering performance and strategy to the Senior Team.

Manage supplier/contractor relationships.

Data Analysis and Reporting

Utilise KPI dashboards, performance analytics, and technical documentation to drive decision making and continuous improvement.

Technical Documentation

Maintain accurate SOPs, risk assessments, engineering drawings, and audit documentation, which shall be reviewed accordingly.

Job ProfileQualifications

Engineering Degree or HND desirable or Level 5 NVQ, HND, or Foundation Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

NEBOSH or IOSH

certification required.

Experience

Minimum

5 years’ experience

in

Engineering Management

within

FMCG/Food Manufacturing

Basic Food Hygiene and Health and Safety knowledge.

Strategic and analytical thinking

Strong leadership and mentoring skills

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement

Understanding of health and safety and food safety regulatory compliance

Proven track record in project delivery and process optimisation
