Are you a resilient, compassionate, and emotionally aware individual with a passion for supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs£ A specialist primary school in Chalfont St Giles is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately.
This nurturing school offers a therapeutic learning environment where pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs are supported to thrive. The role is ideal for someone with experience managing challenging behaviours and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, including those displaying challenging behaviour, anxiety, or trauma-related difficulties
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interactions
- Use structured routines, visual supports, and therapeutic strategies to maintain engagement and stability
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to implement and review individual behaviour plans
- Foster a safe, trusting, and supportive atmosphere that promotes personal growth
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours (in educational or care settings)
- Skilled in de-escalation, emotion coaching, and restorative practices
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Committed to inclusive education and ongoing professional development
- Willing to undertake training in safeguarding, mental health, and trauma-informed approaches
