Portsmouth is a vibrant university city with a rich maritime history on the South coast, offering excellent transport links.Shearwater, located in the Milton area of Portsmouth, is a purpose-built 40-bed dementia residential home opened in August 2009. The accommodation spans two floors with 20 bedrooms per floor, all with private ensuite showers. The home features a garden for residents to enjoy. Currently, around 100 staff work in various roles and shifts across the home.The second floor is currently unoccupied, used as a contingency plan and activity area. Our philosophy promotes independence, recognizing that severe dementia may require residential care, and encourages well-being through person-centered activities and diversity support.What is the purpose of Adult Social Care from a service user perspective?

This flexible, peripatetic role involves working across in-house provider services. Using a person-centered approach, you will care for the physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs of service users, including personal care, assisting at mealtimes, and supporting daily living activities.You will provide social activities to promote mental health and well-being, acting as a keyworker for specific residents, ensuring accurate recording of health information via electronic care plans (Nourish), and communicating with team leaders. This is a legal requirement under CQC standards to ensure residents'' needs are met and care plans are current. You should have:The ability to communicate effectively with service users with cognitive impairment and provide advice in spoken English.Patience, empathy, and understanding of diverse needs related to dementia and disabilities.Experience in a caring role, paid or unpaid.An understanding of dignity, privacy, and choice for residents.Flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently.Initiative and decision-making skills to ensure safety.Good communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.Computer skills for updating electronic care plans and e-learning.An understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity.Willingness to participate in training and development, including QCF Level 2/3 in Social Care and the Care Certificate during probation.Ability to handle emergencies calmly and confidently.Understanding of confidentiality and Data Protection principles.How to apply
