Responsibilities
As an Associate Town Planner, you will:
- Provide expert planning advice to clients across a variety of sectors, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and other related documentation.
- Conduct site appraisals, feasibility studies, and planning assessments.
- Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and clients to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Stay up-to-date with planning legislation, policies, and industry trends.
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Contribute to business development activities, including preparing proposals and attending client meetings.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- Proven experience in a planning consultancy or local authority environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy frameworks.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Day-to-Day
Your typical day as an Associate Town Planner will involve:
- Meeting with clients to discuss project requirements and provide planning advice.
- Conducting site visits and preparing detailed reports.
- Drafting and submitting planning applications and appeals.
- Collaborating with colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Attending planning committee meetings and public consultations as required.
