UHN Deputy Head of Nursing - Family Health

As a visible and supportive leader, you will develop and empower teams to excel in emergency care delivery. The post holder will have managerial accountability to the Head of Nursing and professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse. The Deputy Head of Nursing will support the delivery of clinical quality standards, patient safety, and the overall patient experience in the Division, providing professional leadership, advice, and support to ensure consistency of practice and high standards of care with a strong patient safety focus. Working with a vision of delivering the UHN Values, the Deputy Head of Nursing will support the Head of Nursing and the Division Triumvirate to provide professional leadership and management for the Nursing service within the Division.Responsibilities
Support the Head of Nursing to deliver a safe, sustainable, affordable Nursing workforce across the Division.Collaborate with the Head of Nursing to lead the care and professional practice delivered within a large Division (potentially covering more than one hospital site) with a nursing workforce of 550+ funded WTE.Contribute to strategic and operational decision-making, including cross-specialty engagement and service change initiatives.Lead improvements in nursing care, service delivery, and achievement of organisational priorities within the Division.Develop and implement nursing policy and processes to maximise opportunities through co-design, new care models, and empowerment of service users and carers.Act as a Trust-wide representative for nursing and as an ambassador of UHN as appropriate.Communicate complex information to Executives, the Board, and large groups with tact and diplomacy; ensure information is implemented into clinical practice.Maintain and safeguard highly confidential patient and staff information and ensure effective record-keeping and storage of staff records.Requirements / Qualifications
Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration and no restrictions on practiceMaster’s degree in Nursing, leadership or management or evidence of practical application at this levelPost-graduate leadership qualification or evidence of equivalent leadership experienceContinuing personal and professional development relevant to the postKnowledge and Experience
Experience of senior nursing management or professional leadership in a large and/or complex healthcare settingExperience of senior professional leadership and operational management across multiple clinical specialtiesExperience of managing clinical services and leading improvements in patient care and experience across multiple specialtiesKnowledge of human resources management and communicating complex information to individuals and large groupsExperience managing budgets and financial resources, including budgeting and financial planningExperience leading service improvements across multiple areas and workforce planning including recruitment and retention strategiesKnowledge of clinical governance, clinical risk and safety; up-to-date clinical nursing practiceUp-to-date NHS policy and strategic understandingSkills
Highly developed communication skills for complex matters and difficult situationsAbility to establish credibility with Executive and senior management levelsStrong influencing and negotiating skillsLeadership presence and ability to inspire clinical and non-clinical staffTeam leadership and collaboration within a team environmentAnalytical skills to draw and present qualitative and quantitative data clearlySound judgement in situations with limited guidelines; autonomous decision making when requiredStrong people management and leadership capabilitiesDisclosure and Sponsorship
