An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for a Mechanical Workshop and Laboratory Technician to assist with the delivery of mechanical and electro-mechanical services associated with testing apparatus and equipment for research and teaching.The successful candidate will be based in the Department’s Geotechnical Engineering laboratory and will provide general technical support in the Department.This full-time, open-ended position involves delivering mechanical workshop services within the Geotechnical laboratories, assisting in equipment design, and operating specialist machinery to support new techniques development.You should have a strong understanding of equipment safety and materials, help monitor laboratory safety standards, and support the design, construction, and installation of apparatus used in soil testing.Collaborating with staff and researchers, you will assist in managing the physical infrastructure of the Geotechnical workshop and laboratories.A BTEC Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and completion of a relevant apprenticeship are essential.You should have mechanical skills using lathes, CNC milling machines, pillar drills, and similar equipment.Experience with Solidworks, CAD, or other relevant software is required, along with the ability to work independently and innovatively.Ability to work individually and as part of a team, with a positive attitude, is important.Experience in a laboratory environment is desirable.Benefits include a sector-leading salary, 39 days off per year, generous pension schemes, flexible working policies, family leave, on-site leisure facilities, cycle-to-work schemes, and interest-free travel loans.
