Overview
Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) seeks a Non-Executive Director to contribute to ONR’s strategic direction to 2030 and beyond, drive regulatory excellence and oversee governance arrangements. The post can be based in Liverpool, Cheltenham or London, with travel as required for Board and sub-committee meetings.The Non-Executive Director role
The successful candidate will contribute to the Board’s role in leading ONR to achieve its vision to be a modern, transparent regulator delivering trusted outcomes and value. Key responsibilities include:Helping lead the work of ONR by operating effectively as a Board Member with particular expertise in risk management and by contributing to Board meetings and discussions.Participation as chair or member of one or more of the Board’s standing Committees, including the ability to Chair the ONR Remuneration and Resilience Committee.Maintaining effective working relationships with a broad range of networks and stakeholders.Representing ONR externally, acting collectively in representing its activities to stakeholders and the general public.Demonstrating a commitment to the Seven Principles of Public life.Qualifications and attributes
Knowledge: a clear understanding of the work, priorities and challenges of ONR and the context in which it operates.Experience: a strong track record of delivery on significant organisational change and/or business transformation within the private, public or voluntary sectors.Relationship building: ability to build strong stakeholder relationships, including with Ministers, Senior Government officials and external stakeholders.Communication: strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, accept challenge and constructively challenge others with clarity and respect.Judgement: effective decision-making skills with the ability to critically analyse information to make evidence-based recommendations.Collaboration: ability to work closely with the executive board and other key stakeholders, providing support, constructive challenge and assurance as appropriate.Knowledge of, or willingness to develop, an understanding of the public sector policy and political environment while maintaining an independent non-executive role to support the regulator’s priorities.Knowledge of the public sector environment or willingness to develop this.Location

1Remuneration
Non-Executive Directors are entitled to an annual remuneration of £15,000. There is no bonus or pension scheme.Time Commitment
A minimum time commitment of 30 days per year.Length of Term
