We are seeking a proactive and personable Public Liaison Officer to support a major project initially based in Ipswich, with the role later transitioning to Colchester. This 18-month fixed-term position plays a key role in maintaining positive relationships with residents, local stakeholders, and community groups affected by the project.

The successful candidate will act as the main point of contact for the public, ensuring clear communication, effective engagement, and timely resolution of enquiries or concerns throughout the project lifecycle. Subject to performance and project requirements, there may be an opportunity for the role to become permanent at the end of the contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the project team and the local community.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and community groups.

  • Communicate project updates clearly through meetings, events, newsletters, and other engagement channels.

  • Respond to enquiries, feedback, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.

  • Organise and attend community engagement events, meetings, and briefings.

  • Record and track public feedback, ensuring concerns are addressed and escalated when necessary.

  • Work closely with the project delivery team to ensure accurate information is shared with the public.

  • Support the preparation of communication materials and reports related to community engagement.

  • Represent the project in a professional and approachable manner at all times.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of people.

  • Experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, public liaison, or a similar role is desirable.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple enquiries and tasks.

  • Experience working on previous civil engineering projects

  • Good IT skills and experience with standard office software.

Requirements

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel locally between project locations.

  • Ideally based locally to Ipswich or Colchester.
