Overview

The Charity Commission seeks a Director of Legal and Accountancy Services. This is a senior role to provide inspirational leadership to the Legal and Accountancy teams and to the Charity Commission as a whole.As an independent regulator, the Charity Commission works to enable the charity sector to be its best, but also to prevent, challenge and pursue when things go wrong, upholding and enforcing charity law. The role offers the opportunity to influence the regulatory landscape and charity law in England and Wales, including developing Parliamentary bills, secondary legislation and Charity Commission guidance to shape law and policy affecting charities and charity regulation in a creative, proportionate and innovative way. You will represent the Commission with UK Government Ministers, the Attorney General and their Office, international regulators and other bodies, and other high-profile external stakeholder groups, including major charities.Responsibilities

Oversee high-profile and complex legal cases and legal policy issues.Provide advice to the Chief Executive, the Board and Board Committees on difficult and sensitive legal matters.Lead, develop and empower a high-performing Legal and Accountancy team.Foster innovation within the Commission and apply a risk-based approach to achieve positive outcomes and drive change to charity law.Contribute to the development of law and policy affecting charities and charity regulation in England and Wales.Qualifications and experience

Experience as an inspirational leader with strong expertise in charity law, public, or regulatory and practice law.Interest in and ability to lead on impactful, challenging opportunities and drive change in charity law.How to apply
