M&E Design Manager
M&E Design Manager needed in Essex, London close to East London, Dagenham, Dartford, Brentford and Chelmsford

We’re working with a leading M&E contractor seeking a capable and driven M&E Design Manager to lead their growing in-house design team. This is a key role, working directly with senior management to oversee mechanical and electrical design solutions across a wide range of live projects.

The Role:
As M&E Design Manager, you’ll take responsibility for design coordination, technical reviews, drawing approvals, and interfacing with project and delivery teams. You’ll ensure smooth design workflows from pre-construction through to installation, maintaining compliance with industry standards and client expectations. This role offers the opportunity to lead design delivery on major building services projects while mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the in-house design team across M&E disciplines

• Review and approve mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications

• Oversee design calculations, compliance checks, and technical submissions

• Coordinate with BIM/CAD teams, consultants, and internal delivery teams

• Chair design coordination meetings and contribute to design reviews

• Ensure designs adhere to legislation, guidelines, and sustainability targets

• Lead on design risk assessments, value engineering, and technical reporting

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Exstensive experience in a building services design environment, with proven management or supervisory experience

• Strong technical understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems across commercial and residential sectors

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant design software (Hevacomp, Dialux, etc.)

• Excellent communicator with strong leadership and team management skills

• HNC/Degree qualified in Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (highly desirable)

• Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to solving design challenges
