Overview
We are looking for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist preferably with a history of working in a Histopathology laboratory to enhance our team within the Cellular Pathology department at Kingston Hospital NHS foundation trust. Some previous experience of working in a busy routine NHS Histopathology Laboratory is desirable and membership of the IBMS is an advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to have successfully completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio, but consideration will be made for those currently undertaking the portfolio.Responsibilities
Be involved with all aspects of the routine histology service, a broad range of immunocytochemistry tests and special stains.Experience in processing non Gynae cytology samples would be desirable.Be involved with essential quality checks of the slides issued to histopathology consultants.Ensure safe working laboratory practices in the department in compliance with Trust and department policies and procedures, including safe checks of samples received and accurate entry of information to the laboratory information management system (LIMS).Adhere to good quality procedures and practices to ensure continuing provision of a high quality service.Operate with the quality management and clinical governance processes currently in place in the department.Be competent in all sections of the laboratory to produce a timely and high quality service to users.Participate in education and training for other members of staff.Undertake other duties as may be required appropriate to training and responsibilities of the grade.Assist in maintenance of supplies within the department.Ensure audit trails for each specimen are completed.Perform immunocytochemistry techniques as detailed in SOPs.Using specialist knowledge, process urgent surgical frozen sections, including sectioning and staining for rapid diagnosis.Prepare non-gynae specimens and quality control preparations prior to distributing to consultants.Assist in the preparation and updating of departmental documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures.Qualifications and Requirements
HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.Preferably with history of working in a Histopathology laboratory.Experience in a busy NHS Histopathology Laboratory is desirable.Membership of the IBMS is an advantage; IBMS Registration Portfolio completed or currently being undertaken.Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and confidence with IT programs is essential.
