Description

The Assistant Lawyer / Solicitor will assist Partners, David Rainey and Nick Gianferrari, in dealing with predominantly regulatory, health and safety cases and inquest work often from the day of the incident, investigating the incident circumstances and assisting with the case through to resolution.

This is a technical and client-facing role for a well-rounded lawyer, so you will have a keen interest in building client relationships through the delivery of training and mentoring as well as in delivering first class legal solutions to complex problems.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analysis of prosecution evidence and considering implications for lay client/companyDrafting statements of insured/witnessesReview of client’s evidence - obtaining, collating, indexing, cross-referencing with own statements and Prosecution''s statements, summarising evidence for lead file handlersLiaising with Court, Coroner''s Office and CQC/Police/HSE or relevant regulatorLiaising with experts - instructing own experts, summarising expert evidence, serving reportsServing Defence case statements, sentencing bundles and mitigation bundlesDrafting written submissions, following liaison with lay client/corporate clientLiaising with Insured re Prosecution''s case and disclosure requiredReviewing transcripts of evidenceOrganising and attending conferences and meetings, drafting note of discussion and following agreed strategy following lead lawyer’s strategyAttendance / representation at interview under cautionsAttendance behind Counsel for trials and inquests - drafting notes of evidence, outcome and sentencingArranges meetings, conferences, site visits, expert appointmentsChase for transcripts and disclosure, collating the evidenceReview of medical records, post mortem reports and CCTV footageAttending site, taking photos and drafting basic statementsResearch into relevant HSE guidelinesResearch into Insured''s - corporate structure, their procedures, risk assessments, documentsCollating witness availabilityPreparation of bundles for hearings, serving bundlesTo ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

A qualified Solicitor, with at least 1 years’ experience in crime health and safety, regulatory or care home inquest experience.

An ability to prioritise workloadAbility to pay attention to detailAbility to work with case management systemsThe personal skills to deal with insureds in a sensitive manner given the context within which they find themselves inGood telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the businessCalm under pressureSelf-confidence, with good literacy and IT skillsGood team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are metAbility to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Values frameworkRef: DAV-0168
