Job Description
TeacherActive is currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant to work in a variety of welcoming and supportive primary schools across Colchester and surrounding areas.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teachers and pupils within the classroom, helping to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. You will support the delivery of lessons, work with individuals and small groups, and help ensure that all pupils are able to access learning and achieve their full potential.

You will be expected to assist in planning and delivering classroom activities under the guidance of the class teacher, provide tailored support to pupils who may require additional help, and contribute to the overall progress and wellbeing of children within the school setting.

A sports background is desirable but not essential, offering opportunities to support PE lessons or extracurricular activities. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about education and supporting young learners.

Key Responsibilities

• Support class teachers in delivering engaging lessons
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils
• Assist students with additional learning needs, including SEND
• Help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
• Support classroom management and behaviour strategies
• Assist with preparation of learning materials and resources
• Support PE or sports activities when applicable

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children (school or similar setting preferred)
• Patient, caring, and adaptable approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Genuine passion for education and supporting young learners
• Sports background desirable but not essential
• Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 in Education, Teaching, or Childcare – desirable but not essential)
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
