OverviewCommercial Contracts Manager / QS - Construction (Specialist Composites). CSCS. Colchester, Essex (on-site with travel to sites as required).
The RoleWe are seeking a skilled Commercial Contracts Manager to oversee complex contracts, drive profitability, and deliver GRP and FRP solutions across the UK. You will secure new work through bids and tenders, review contracts to clarify commitments, manage budgets, costs, and timelines, resolve issues such as changes or disputes, and uphold strict health and safety standards. You will act as the main link between clients, subcontractors, and our teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, safely, and in line with the contract.
Your Responsibilities
Lead preparation and submission of PQQs and tenders, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Review opportunities, develop competitive pricing, and set clear budgets and margins.
Maintain industry accreditations and update as required.
Oversee projects from contract award through to final handover.
Translate client requirements into actionable plans and manage delivery.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to keep projects on track.
Manage budgets, margins, and cost control across project lifecycles.
Handle pricing, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
Produce cash flow forecasts, commercial reports, and risk assessments.
Ensure adherence to contract terms and commercial procedures; manage claims, variations, and dispute resolution when required.
Ensure full Health and Safety compliance (CDM) and promote a strong safety culture.
Lead and support site teams, subcontractors, and staff; oversee recruitment and inductions.
Act as the main client contact and provide updates and progress reports; build and maintain relationships to secure repeat business.
What we are looking for
Proven track record as a Contracts Manager or QS within construction or specialist installation.
In-depth knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts, CDM regulations, and Health and Safety standards.
Strong commercial expertise in tendering, pricing, cost control, payments, and reporting.
Experience leading PQQs and tender submissions; capable of setting and controlling budgets, margins, and profitability.
Highly organized with excellent planning, communication, and leadership skills.
CSCS card holder with SMSTS (or equivalent).
Knowledge of GRP, composites, or specialist structural systems.
Experience with project management and HandS software tools.
