SEN Learning Support Assistant - 1:1 (ASD, Non-Verbal Student)

A mainstream primary school in Camden is looking for a passionate and experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team after October half term. This is a full-time, long-term role working 1:1 with a child who is non-verbal and has Autism (ASD) with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Role Overview:

• Provide 1:1 support for a child with ASD, focusing on communication, social interaction, and classroom engagement

• Use a range of strategies to support a non-verbal child, such as PECS, visual timetables, and sensory activities

• Implement and review the child''s EHCP targets in collaboration with the SENCO and class teacher

• Support the child with both academic and social development, ensuring they can access the curriculum

• Build a strong, trusting relationship to encourage positive behaviour, independence, and confidence

• Work in partnership with parents, external professionals, and the wider school team

Requirements:

• At least one year of experience supporting children with ASD in a school or SEN setting

• Prior experience working with non-verbal children (desirable)

• Knowledge of communication methods such as PECS or Makaton (advantageous)

• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations

• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs

• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and nurturing learning environment
