Power System Design Engineer
About the Role An established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Power System Design Engineer to join its team, supporting the delivery of high-voltage substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver power system design packages for HV substations, grid connections, and BESS projects (typically 11-400 kV). Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), equipment layouts, cable schedules, interconnection diagrams, and earthing/bonding designs. Perform power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, harmonic, and dynamic stability analyses. Support grid connection applications, compliance submissions, and modelling for DNO, TO, and NGESO stakeholders. Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and earthing systems. Liaise with network operators and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with grid codes, G99, ENA, and relevant national standards. Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. Conduct design reviews, maintain adherence to quality assurance processes, and manage deliverables using Procore or equivalent project management systems. Collaborate with Protection, SCADA, Civil, and Construction teams to ensure seamless design integration.
