Band 7 Physiotherapy Team Leader | Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

OverviewThis is a community post across the large city of Birmingham for a new Team Leader for the Paediatric Physiotherapist Team. The post involves a mix of staff management responsibilities and clinical work, delivering clinic, schools and community-based assessments and interventions for children and young people with neurological and developmental conditions. The post holder will deputise for the Service Clinical Manager when required and provide day-to-day operational management and coordination of a designated team.
Responsibilities
Line management and supervision of designated staff and students (bands 2–7, up to -22 staff).
Manage day-to-day operational management and co-ordination of the designated team and act as a conduit between staff and the Service Clinical Manager.
Deputise for the Service Clinical Manager and provide cover for other Team Leaders as required.
Deliver specialist clinical work and maintain highly skilled practice, informing clinical judgments and decisions.
Be a source of clinical expertise and guidance for families, carers and multi-disciplinary teams (Health, Education, Social Care).
Carry out specialist assessments in the service area and develop/implement programmes of care and treatment in line with pathways and packages of care.
Negotiate with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers for case management of complex cases, including referrals as appropriate.
Use specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgments for highly complex cases, including discharge decisions.
Undertake differential diagnosis and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients as part of a team approach.
Plan and deliver interventions (group and one-to-one) according to pathways and service packages of care.
Delegate therapy programmes to assistants, mentoring and supervising in line with local delegation policy.
Provide treatment based on best practice, tailored to client needs, and advise families on the level of support required at home or in school environments.

Requirements and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have proven paediatric experience, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be motivated to help grow and develop the physiotherapy service. The role requires experience in paediatrics and a flexible approach to work across mainstream, special schools, health centres and community settings. Access to reliable transport is essential.
Location and ScopeThe post is in the Children’s community Physiotherapy Department, working within Inclusion Services in the Children and Families Division across the city, with a range of settings including mainstream and special schools, health centres and community settings.
