Locum Consultant Gastroenterology

Overview
This locum post will help address the Trust''s diagnostic and treatment targets in out-patient, in-patient and endoscopy services, and help enhance our capacity for the anticipated expansion in colonoscopy over the next few years. If appropriate, the job plan of the post-holder may be configured to accommodate any other subspecialist expertise. The four hour session is to include related administrative duties.Responsibilities
Endoscopy: current unit practice is for mixed lists comprising OGDs, flexible sigmoidoscopies, and colonoscopies, from inpatients, emergencies, waiting list and rapid access sources with a total of 220 minutes (am) or 200 minutes (pm) timetabled endoscopy.Outpatient clinics: two clinics per week at Russells Hall Hospital or a peripheral clinic (Corbett or Guest hospital).Ward work: supervision of 36 inpatients during consultant of week cover, supported by at least 3 juniors at FY, IMT and SpR grade.Unit audit: contribute to unit audit projects.On-call duties: Saturday / Sunday / Bank holiday ward rounds (3 hours each) when on call; participate in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy on-call rota (1 in 9) with a 5% supplement (category B level). Emergency endoscopies during the working day will be incorporated in routine lists whenever possible.Organisation and working pattern
There may be a requirement to work flexibly across the four partner Trusts of the Black Country Provider Collaborative (Dudley Group NHS FT, Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust). Notwithstanding hosting limits, this post is based with The Dudley Group but may contribute across partner sites to meet patient and service needs.Qualifications and desirable experience
Full accreditation in gastroenterology and general (internal) medicine will be required, and the post-holder will be expected to contribute toward the general gastroenterological workload including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, in addition to a small caseload of general medicine. A research interest with evidence of publications is desirable, as is a postgraduate degree.Equality, diversity and recruitment information
