About Northern TrustNorthern Trust, a Fortune 500 company, is a globally recognized, award-winning financial institution that has been in continuous operation since 1889. Northern Trust is proud to provide innovative financial services and guidance to the world’s most successful individuals, families, and institutions by remaining true to our enduring principles of service, expertise, and integrity. With more than 130 years of financial experience and over 22,000 partners, we serve the world’s most sophisticated clients using leading technology and exceptional service.

We are looking for a visionary Capability Business Architect to join our Global Payments and Liquidity team. This role is central to translating strategic intent into executable business capabilities, ensuring our payment and liquidity operations are future-ready, resilient, and aligned with enterprise goals. As a Business Architect, you will act as a strategic connector—bridging the gap between high-level business strategy and operational delivery. You will define and evolve business capabilities, design target operating models, and guide transformation initiatives that enhance our global financial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Alignment and Capability Design: Partner with senior leaders to shape the strategic roadmap for global payments and liquidity. Define and evolve business capabilities, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and business goals. Develop target operating models and business architecture blueprints that guide transformation and delivery.

Architecture Development and Delivery Enablement: Translate strategic objectives into actionable business models, process flows, and capability maps. Collaborate with delivery teams to ensure architectural designs are implemented effectively and sustainably. Provide architectural oversight across programmes to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement and Facilitation: Engage with cross-functional teams including Finance, Treasury, Technology, Risk, and Compliance. Facilitate workshops, design sessions, and governance forums to align stakeholders and drive consensus.

Process and Performance Optimisation: Analyse current-state processes and systems to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities. Support the development of KPIs and metrics to measure business architecture performance and value delivery.

Risk and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure architectural designs adhere to global regulatory standards. Identify and mitigate risks associated with payment and liquidity operations.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Extensive experience in business architecture within financial services, ideally in payments and liquidity.

Strong understanding of payment ecosystems, liquidity platforms, and treasury operations.

Experience with capability modelling, business process design, and transformation delivery.

Skills and Competencies

Strategic thinker with the ability to connect vision to execution.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management.

Comfortable navigating complex environments and driving change.

Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
