The London Borough of Newham’s Private Sector Housing Service is at the forefront of the regulation of private sector housing. Through its pioneering borough wide property licensing schemes, our schemes protect tenants and landlords by creating a deterrent for criminal landlords. We also work with fire and rescue services to secure remediation of high-rise and mid-rise private sector buildings with suspected unsafe cladding and other fire safety issues. We are looking to build upon this good work and are seeking creative, enthusiastic and professional individuals to join our workforce. From the outset of employment, there will be flexible working arrangements and training opportunities. Newham offers a relocation package of up to £7,000* to assist staff who move home due to appointment. *Subject to eligibility criteria.Newham is located 5 miles east of the City of London and 20 minutes from the M25. Public transport options include the London Underground, Overground, DLR, buses and National Rail, including the Elizabeth Line.About the Job

The Building Safety and Projects Team Support Officer role is to facilitate and assist in cladding projects and activities within private sector housing standards to address fire safety issues affecting blocks in the private sector in Newham, in accordance with service requirements, the Housing Act 2004, Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and other relevant legislation.Key responsibilities include monitoring privately owned buildings with unsafe cladding, managing building-by-building data, providing information to DLUHC on buildings of concern, engaging with building owners to monitor progress, and supporting enforcement actions to drive remediation. Where necessary, enforcement may use the Housing Act 2004 and powers under Part 5 of the Building Safety Act 2022.The role provides vital administrative support for data collection, retention and organisation, facilitates communications with stakeholders, and supports processes associated with enforcement activities to improve housing standards and put people at the centre of service delivery. This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months.About You

You will be organized, flexible, with excellent administrative, customer service and communication skills. You will provide high-quality service to landlords, owners, occupiers and tenants in all tenures and work as part of a high-performing team. You should be proficient with technology and able to input and access information using IT systems (Excel, Word, databases, etc.).For more information regarding the role, please refer to the Job Description.
