Are you a caring and committed individual looking to make a difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs?

An outstanding Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Cumbria is seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join their passionate and supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a nurturing environment where every child is valued, and progress is measured by personal growth as much as academic achievement.

About the School:
The school caters for children and young people with a range of complex needs, including autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and physical or sensory impairments. Staff work collaboratively to provide a tailored, inclusive, and holistic education that supports both academic and personal development.

The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils in the classroom and during daily routines, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment. The role involves a combination of academic support, emotional guidance, and personal care, including toileting and feeding where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with diverse needs
  • Assist pupils with personal care tasks in a respectful and dignified manner
  • Support learning activities under the direction of teaching staff
  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to support pupils holistically

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable but not essential)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature
  • A willingness to support with personal care as part of the daily routine
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils

What the School Offers:

  • A warm, inclusive, and supportive working environment
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • The chance to make a real impact on the lives of children with complex needs
  • Collaborative and experienced staff team
