Band 6 - Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, Children''s Emergency DepartmentWe are seeking an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Emergency Department nurse who is passionate about improving care and service delivery within the department, meeting the needs of all our patients whilst also meeting the national standards for emergency care.
The Children’s Emergency Department (CED) is a purpose-built environment for children and young people aged 0-15 years with approximately 31,000 attendances a year across our Children’s Emergency and urgent care pathways. It has a dedicated 2-bed resuscitation area within the department and is part of the major trauma network. CED is co-located with the Paediatric Assessment unit which provides short stay care for children for 24 hours. There is also an urgent treatment centre on site. We are a friendly dedicated team of Paediatric Nurses and Paediatric consultants. The department is committed to continuous improvements in the service and benefits from having a Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner service, with support from the senior sister/charge nurse clinical band 7s.
There is a vast opportunity for support and development within our service. Our Paediatric Practice Education team are dedicated to aiding your competencies within paediatrics.
Responsibilities
Provide high standards of individualised care to patients, acting as a clinical role model.
Support the Unit Manager in driving quality care provision forward and maintain standards of cleanliness in the clinical area in partnership with the Unit Manager.
Provide clear clinical leadership to staff, deputising for the Unit Manager in their absence.
On a shift-by-shift basis, coordinate appropriate staffing across the Children’s Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit.
Work collaboratively with all nursing and medical teams in the department and paediatric inpatient areas.
Demonstrate the ability to work in a busy and fast-paced ED environment, communicate with different teams, and adapt to changing conditions.
Take on link role responsibilities dependant on personal preferences (trauma, bereavement, risk assessment and audit, and student mentoring and support).

Essential: Appropriate NMC Registration
Desirable: Degree in Children’s Nursing
Knowledge
Essential: Have undertaken APLS or willingness to undertake within 3 months and maintain certification
Essential: Knowledge of Child protection issues
Essential: Level 3 safeguarding training
Essential: Understanding of paediatric care philosophy and Paediatric AandE
Desirable: Knowledge of handling complaints and clinical incidents
Experience
Essential: Significant experience at Band 5 within a paediatric clinical acute environment
Essential: Previous experience in emergency nursing
Essential: Demonstrate specialist knowledge of the paediatric patient group
Desirable: Broad experience of children’s nursing
