Overview of the Role

Are you passionate about delivering innovative environmental solutions and shaping the future? Mott MacDonald’s Environment, Nature, and Consents (ESS) team is looking for an experienced Senior Consultant to contribute to a growing pipeline of opportunities. ESS is involved in a diverse range of projects across sectors including energy, ports/marine, defence, water, rail, and urban development, for public and private sector clients.

Our ESS team leads the coordination, delivery and management of environmental and sustainability workstreams across all project stages, from business case development and optioneering through to procurement and construction. You will work closely with environmental specialists, stakeholders, design teams and clients to embed sustainability into decision-making. This UK-based role can be based at any of 20+ offices, with a preference for Altrincham, Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Reading, Southampton, and travel may be required both within the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities

Lead EIA screening and scoping, and production of Environmental Statements and other environmental reports.

Coordinate technical input from multi-disciplinary specialists.

Assist with monitoring programmes, resources and budgets on environmental projects.

Support business development and proposal writing for environmental services, either as standalone or as part of integrated services offered by Mott MacDonald.

Engage with clients and stakeholders; maintain strong client liaison.

Mentor and line manage environmental team members.

Develop an environmental technical specialization alongside environmental coordination where applicable.

Candidate SpecificationEssential

Relevant academic/professional qualifications.

Chartership recently achieved or progress towards Chartership (IEMA, IES, CIWEM or similar).

Experience in environmental assessment, EIA/SEA, UK environmental planning legislation, ESG, sustainability strategy, and/or infrastructure project appraisal.

Experience in a client-facing role with ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.

Excellent organization and planning skills with ability to deliver high-quality outputs and manage budgets and programmes.

Experience working in diverse multi-disciplinary teams and leading teams to deliver environmental and sustainability deliverables.

Desirable

Bid/tender delivery experience including cost and quality responses.

Experience on TWAO/DCO schemes and in Water, Defence, Energy, Marine or Rail sectors.

People management experience and supporting staff development, including progression with professional qualifications.

Confident delivery of environmental and sustainability workshops or training (online and in person).
