Location: Durham

Job Type: Temporary

Shifts: 37 hours. This is a 7 day service, members of the team work flexibly within this to meet the needs of the service but also to allow work/life balance. There will be some evening and weekend work.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Durham''s Family Group Conference Service. The Family Group Conference Lifelong Links Co-ordinator will be responsible for working independently with children, young people and families with a focus on keeping families together and exploring lifelong networks for our young people.

The aim of a Family Group Conference is to empower families to create their own plans which safely support their children and young people to remain in the care of their parents or wider family network. The role of the co-ordinator is to prepare and support families to meet, negotiate and agree a plan/agreement that is future focussed and addresses safety and safeguarding concerns. Improved outcomes for families will be demonstrated by working to increase and improve family relationships and secure safe living arrangements for children and young people within their families where possible.

The aim of Lifelong Links is to create a lasting support network for young people in our care. The Lifelong Links approach draws upon a combination of a family finding model, which originated in the United States and the Family Group Conference model, which originated in New Zealand. The aim is to identify and engage relatives and other supportive adults, who are estranged from, or not yet known to a young person who is in local authority care, especially those people who are willing to make a lasting commitment to the young person.

The Family Group Conference and Lifelong Links Coordinator will be responsible for preparing and supporting children, young people and families in the co-ordination of Family Group Conferences and Lifelong Links. They will work directly with children, young people, parents, wider family networks and other important people to explore family networks to negotiate and agree a plan that is future focussed and promotes the safety and wellbeing of the child/young person.

The Family Group Conference and Lifelong Links Coordinator will work closely with the referring social worker and the child / young person to plan, organise and deliver the child / young person''s Lifelong Links plan or Family Group Conference plan, bringing together family, friends, professionals and other important people.

To provide mediation and a range of restorative interventions to support establishing / re-establishing young peoples relationships and networks to build loving, safe and stable relationships.
