Long Term Futures are working with a welcoming primary school in Hammersmith to recruit a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a Year 3 pupil with complex needs. The pupil is non-verbal and has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), requiring consistent support throughout the school day. While not physically aggressive, they can become dysregulated and need a patient, structured approach to help regulate emotions and access learning.

The school promotes a knowledge-rich curriculum with a strong focus on creativity, confidence, and inclusion. This role is ideal for a candidate with experience of supporting children with significant SEND needs and a keen interest in developing communication strategies.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with complex needs, tailoring learning to their individual developmental stage.
  • Use Makaton, PECS, or other visual supports to aid communication and engagement.
  • Apply consistent behaviour management and regulation strategies in moments of dysregulation.
  • Support transitions and daily routines, ensuring the child feels secure and supported.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external specialists to follow the pupil''s support plan.
  • Record progress and observations to feed into reviews and individual education plans.

What We''re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with ASD and communication difficulties in a primary setting.
  • Ideally, knowledge or training in Makaton or other alternative communication systems.
  • Confident with behaviour support strategies and positive handling approaches.
  • Patient, calm, and adaptable with a proactive "can-do" mindset.
  • Excellent spoken English and clear communication skills.

Why Work with Long Term Futures?
