SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 3 (1:1 Support, ASD & Non-Verbal)
Location: Hammersmith, W6 - commutable from Shepherd''s Bush, Chiswick, Acton, Fulham, and Barnes
Pay: -95110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Long Term Futures are working with a welcoming primary school in Hammersmith to recruit a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a Year 3 pupil with complex needs. The pupil is non-verbal and has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), requiring consistent support throughout the school day. While not physically aggressive, they can become dysregulated and need a patient, structured approach to help regulate emotions and access learning.
The school promotes a knowledge-rich curriculum with a strong focus on creativity, confidence, and inclusion. This role is ideal for a candidate with experience of supporting children with significant SEND needs and a keen interest in developing communication strategies.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with complex needs, tailoring learning to their individual developmental stage.
- Use Makaton, PECS, or other visual supports to aid communication and engagement.
- Apply consistent behaviour management and regulation strategies in moments of dysregulation.
- Support transitions and daily routines, ensuring the child feels secure and supported.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external specialists to follow the pupil''s support plan.
- Record progress and observations to feed into reviews and individual education plans.
What We''re Looking For
- Experience supporting children with ASD and communication difficulties in a primary setting.
- Ideally, knowledge or training in Makaton or other alternative communication systems.
- Confident with behaviour support strategies and positive handling approaches.
- Patient, calm, and adaptable with a proactive "can-do" mindset.
- Excellent spoken English and clear communication skills.
