IT Specialist (Network and databases)

Overview
To provide both technical and non-technical expertise in the development and operation of ICT support to end users within the UK NEQAS for Microbiology systems environment. The postholder will be part of a UK NEQAS for Microbiology IT Support team and will be a key contact for incidents and requests. The postholder will provide department staff with support, guidance, and advice to allow them to work on the UK NEQAS for Microbiology network without disruption. They will also support the IT Manager in any system implementations or incidents as directed. The postholder will be required to maintain existing databases, create new databases, and manipulate data in MS SQL and MS Access. They will also program in VBA and Transact-SQL and create macros and queries in MS SQL.Responsibilities
Assist the IT Manager in providing a high-quality customer service and support that will ensure that all UK NEQAS staff are able to access the UK NEQAS for Microbiology system as required, using properly configured and reliable devices.Ensure that all UK NEQAS for Microbiology users receive a consistent level of support within agreed service levels across geographical locations and directorates.Provide technical support and troubleshooting, including administration of user accounts, permissions, file shares, and support of Windows OS, Group Policies and MS communication and collaboration tools. Also manage 365 accounts on the Microsoft Admin Console, Teams, and SharePoint.Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for software installation, licensing, backup, and assurance.Work closely with the IT Manager to reduce manual intervention for repetitive tasks and to ensure that processes are both transparent and adopted. Some knowledge of AI (Copilot, Gemini and ChatGPT).Ensuring compliance with UKHSA ICT Security Policies.Conduct other work as directed by line management in accordance with departmental standards and policies.UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) for Microbiology is part of UKHSA and located in Colindale and Central London, responsible for the organisation and global delivery of external quality assessment (EQA) for clinical microbiology (bacteriology, virology, molecular and parasitology). UK NEQAS for Microbiology is self-financing through monies obtained from subscriptions to the different services offered.
