Histopathology Training Lead / Advanced Biomedical Scientist

OverviewWe are looking for an enthusiastic and pro-active Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our Histopathology department as the Training Lead across Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals. This role is full time, however part time hours will be considered in consideration of service needs.
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of an efficient and effective, UKAS compliant programme of training and competency assessment across the Histopathology Service. We process approximately 60,000 samples per year and are focused on delivering a high-performing, high quality and fully compliant service focused on our patients’ needs. You will play an integral part in day-to-day training and facilitate staff development and careers, liaising with all levels of histopathology staff to support training needs within the service.
You will be a Biomedical Scientist by background, HCPC registered with significant experience within a Histopathology / Cellular Pathology NHS laboratory with experience training staff. This is a role in which you can develop your training and managerial skills, with in-house and external course opportunities available for your professional development.
Main duties
To facilitate the training and development needs for all staff in the Histology Service (excluding Medical Consultants).
Ensure that training and development needs of Histology staff are identified, communicated effectively and recorded.
Develop and maintain a system for recording training and development that meets at least ISO 15189 standards for Histology.
Under the direction of the service lead, organise training and development for staff of the Histology Service and users of its services.
Maintain own competence and contribute in technical areas as required by the service.

Person SpecificationQualifications
HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent.
Appropriate Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters or equivalent or working towards).
Evidence of CPD.
Desirable
Current or working towards management qualifications (e.g., health and safety, training officer, quality management).
IBMS Dissection qualification.
European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
Experience
Experience across a range of procedures and practices relevant to the post.
Significant post-registration experience in a UKAS accredited and IBMS approved training laboratory.
Experience of training staff and involvement with UKAS assessments.
Experience with Pathology IT systems and Quality Management Systems.
Experience in writing SOPs and policies.
Desirable: Previous experience in staff leadership / mentoring.
Knowledge
Highly specialist Histopathology knowledge and understanding of UKAS standards.
Biomedical Scientist dissection (Desirable).
