Savills Environment and Infrastructure is a department in the Planning Division focused on planning for major development projects. The team provides a range of specialist consultancy services with a strong focus on the UK infrastructure, including renewable energy and carbon capture projects to deliver net zero, and works on projects of all types and scales. The goal is to shape projects, ensure environmental protection and betterment, and support clients to obtain planning approval and build vital infrastructure. This is achieved through high standards of environmental and social expertise, understanding of consents and regulation, and the ability to rapidly understand project details and client business needs.We work in the Planning Act 2008 regime as well as under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (TCPA) and other legislation covering electricity, transport and other forms of infrastructure development. We collaborate with Savills Earth, which brings together over 100 professionals from across the business, including Engineering and Design Consultancy, Property Management, Energy Consultancy, Energy Procurement, Environmental Economics and Research. We also work with land referencing and property acquisition specialists across Savills UK. Our network covers all regions of the UK, with active presence in London, Leeds and Manchester, and expanding in other cities. In Environment and Infrastructure, we work closely with regional planning teams and are seeking to expand our own planning capacity alongside the environmental consultancy we specialise in.Role details
As a graduate within the Environment and Infrastructure team, you will gain experience across a wide variety of project types, including the Planning Act 2008 (NSIP) regime and TCPA. Daily tasks may include researching and reporting on planning context of sites; comparing development options; preparing planning application documentation; liaising with local planning authorities, consultees and the Planning Inspectorate; assisting with planning appeals; assisting Examination of NSIP Development Consent Orders; advising clients in meetings (virtual and face-to-face); and preparing proposals and costing to bid on future work. The breadth of experience aims to provide holistic knowledge across the Savills business while developing planning skills.Key responsibilities
As a graduate consultant within the team, the key responsibilities include:Technical expertise: develop a high standard of knowledge, working towards becoming a recognised expert in infrastructure planning.Project delivery: deliver high-quality work and balance competing priorities, with support from senior team members.Project management: help manage projects to keep them on time and on budget.Business development: write proposals, cost work, and support wider business development opportunities.Client engagement: join and input into client meetings as required; develop networks by attending relevant external events and webinars.How you’ll make an impact
