Salary - £40,000 – £50,000 (depending on experience & CPC qualification)
Job Purpose
To manage the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring vehicles and drivers operate efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of service.
The role focuses on delivering a reliable and well-organised operation, supporting drivers, managing the depot, and meeting daily and weekly performance targets.
Areas of Responsibility - Day-to-day running of the transport operation, Route and load planning, Driver management, welfare, and morale, Fleet and vehicle oversight, Depot management, Health & Safety in daily operations, Delivery of operational KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
Operations - Plan and coordinate daily transport activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations, Allocate vehicles and drivers effectively to meet workload demands, Monitor progress throughout the day and respond to any issues quickly
Driver Management.- Conduct daily driver briefings and debriefings, Build strong working relationships with drivers and support them in their roles, Monitor timekeeping, attendance, and general performance, Address issues early and fairly, escalating where needed.
Fleet & Depot - Oversee the condition and availability of vehicles, Ensure defects are reported and resolved promptly, Maintain a clean, organised, and safe depot environment.
Health & Safety - Promote safe working practices across all activities, Ensure drivers follow company procedures and site requirements.
Performance & Improvement - Work towards daily and weekly KPIs, Identify areas for improvement in planning and operations, Support cost-effective use of vehicles and resources.
Communication - Act as the main link between drivers, management, and customers, Keep all parties informed of any delays or operational changes, Provide regular updates to the Operations Director.
Authority & Responsibilities - Responsible for the daily running of the transport operation, Manages driver performance and conduct, Handles day-to-day issues and decision-making within the role, Escalates major operational or personnel issues when required.
Key Skills & Experience - Experience in transport or logistics operations, Strong organisational and planning skills, Ability to manage people and solve problems effectively, Good communication skills, Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
