Consultant Psychiatrist in the Community Learning Disability – CNTW NHS Foundation TrustOverview

This is a community post working with an established community Learning Disability mental health team serving the Sunderland area. The post holder will provide senior expertise in assessment and treatment of adults with learning disability referred with psychiatric or behavioural concerns. There is a population of Learning Disability Forensic patients living within Sunderland for whom the post holder will have responsibility. The community learning disabilities team is based at Monkwearmouth Hospital Sunderland. The post holder will have good links with other consultant colleagues within learning disability services. Currently there is one specialty doctor working within Sunderland community learning disability in addition to a vacant post. There is access to a comprehensive Multidisciplinary team.There will be opportunity for mental health work, teaching, audit, and SPA activities. Please note we cannot sponsor GMC for this role. The post holder will work across 3 pathways, including:PBS pathway – based on Positive Behavioural Support and applied behavioural analysis for behaviours that challenge. The post holder will be supported by various professionals to develop a behavioural plan and will be consulted to aid formulations as required.Mental Health and Well-being Pathway – diagnosing and managing mental disorders and promoting well-being in the ID population.Physical health pathway – supporting patients with physical health problems and working closely with primary and other secondary care services to secure appropriate support and care.There is an established Forensic Outreach team providing input as per the Forensic pathway. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the LD Forensic patients in Sunderland, with close links to Epilepsy services at Sunderland Royal Infirmary and LD services in Sunderland.About us

This is a 6 PA Consultant post in Sunderland Learning Disability Community Adult CTT. The Consultant will work closely with the community team and provide senior expertise in assessment and treatment of adults with learning disability referred with psychiatric, behavioural and epilepsy-related behavioural problems. There are close links with Epilepsy services at Sunderland Royal Infirmary and LD services in Sunderland; the postholder is expected to work closely with Epilepsy services. The post holder will work across the three pathways described above.Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

MBBS (or equivalent)Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCTApproved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983Approved Clinician StatusMRCPsych or equivalent qualificationPostgraduate qualifications in a relevant fieldHas undergone training in educational supervisionHas undergone training in appraisalKnowledge

Up-to-date knowledge in the field of PsychiatryAwareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislationAn area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societiesExperience

Experience of multidisciplinary team workingWide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settingsExperience of Clinical AuditExperience in multiagency work with service users, carers and voluntary agenciesExperience in service management or developmentSkills
