Senior Quantity Surveyor

OverviewSenior Quantity Surveyor role at Barhale. Barhale is a civil engineering and infrastructure specialist with a long-standing track record across the UK. The role involves supporting project delivery teams, driving commercial performance, and managing costs on a range of civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
Provision of accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project and business unit levels to inform Group reporting
Provision of accurate cash flow reporting
Cost management and project forecasting
Drafting and updating monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans
Prepare upstream applications for payment and manage cash flow
Procurement of subcontractors, negotiation and financial accounting
Preparation of project applications for payment to final account settlement
Liaison with clients and third parties on commercial issues, including changes, claims and additional payment
Forecast expenditure and cash recovery with the project team to align with business unit expectations
Share best practices and advise site teams on cost management and efficiencies
Identify and realise commercial opportunities and protect Barhale from commercial risks
Contracts
Manage contract and subcontract agreements, primarily IChemE and NEC forms
Ensure terms and conditions align with Barhale’s governance; identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
Procurement of subcontracted works and post-contract management
Engage supply chain with correct contract terms and maintain relationships
Processes
Support internal commercial processes by meeting timeframes and ensuring compliance
Seek to improve processes and procedures
Key Measures and Targets
Accurate internal and external forecasting
Ability to interrogate and challenge records, reports and cost data
Mitigate commercial risk and realise opportunities
Achieve profit in line with business unit expectations
Maintain deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendars
Produce high-quality commercial documentation
Foster excellent relationships with supply chain, stakeholders and clients
Essential Qualifications
Previous experience in the construction industry
Familiarity with IChemE/NEC forms of contract; knowledge of Construction Law
Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including meetings, measurement and control cycles, certificates, and accruals
Demonstrable experience of monthly forecasting and cost analysis
Excellent communication, numerical and computer literacy; proficient in Microsoft Office
Excellent organisation and time management, ability to meet tight deadlines
Desirable
Member of RICS or equivalent; or working towards
CSCS card
HND/degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
Knowledge and experience in estimation
Experience with direct delivery contracting
Engaging communicator with problem-solving skills
