As a senior mechanical design engineer you will be part of a small team involved with developing cutting-edge marine propulsion systems aimed at reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions. If green technology interests you then this could be an ideal role.
 
Key skills:

• A degree of master''s degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or similar
• Demonstrable experience of taking designs through concept to full production (DFM / DFA)
• Good experience with the design of large steel (ideally heavy gauge) structures
• Experience with dynamic systems (e.g. motor controlled / hydraulic powered systems)
• Experience with high end CAD systems (e.g. NX, Inventor, Catia, etc)

About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable product technologies within a growing and forward-thinking start-up. The company has developed cutting-edge systems to aid ship propulsion whilst reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
The role will involve the design and development of large-scale steel structures including 3D / 2D design, supporting product development through test, validation and into production.
 
Skills / Knowledge Required: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

• A degree of master''s degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or similar
• Demonstrable experience of taking designs through concept to full production (DFM / DFA)
• Good experience with the design of large steel (ideally heavy gauge) structures
• Experience with dynamic systems (e.g. motor controlled / hydraulic powered systems)
• Experience with high end CAD systems (e.g. NX, Inventor, Catia, etc)

Experience with large steel structures typical to the marine or ship building environment would be preferred. However, other relevant experience can be considered (e.g. construction machinery, heavy lifting equipment, subsea equipment, marine robotics / UUVs, wind turbines, or static machinery / capital equipment).
Note: Willingness to travel occasionally for product trials, installation, commissioning would be great
 
Others (beneficial): Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

• Experience of structural analysis, FEA and / or hand-calculations (steel or composites)
• Experience working directly with marine classification societies (e.g. DNV, LR, ABS etc.)
• Mandarin language skills would be very useful

This mechanical design role will be based in Southampton, Hampshire, and the company offers hybrid working (min 3 days in the office). People located in and around Southampton, Basingstoke, Fareham, Portsmouth, Guildford, Farnborough, etc, could potentially make this work.
Relocation and work visa support could be available for the right person.
