Youll be joining Centricas Group Data function, working in close partnership with our Data Science and Data Governance teams. Together, were building a data ecosystem that powers strategic decision-making and enables the creation of reusable, high-quality data assets across the business.As
Head of Data Engineering
, youll lead the design, development, and optimisation of Centricas data infrastructure. Youll define and execute a forward-thinking data engineering strategy, ensuring our pipelines and platforms are scalable, secure, and aligned with business goals. Youll mentor a high-performing team, collaborate across departments, and champion best practices in data management, governance, and technology adoption.Youll also work closely with the Head of Data Science to ensure our infrastructure supports advanced analytics and modelling, enabling the organisation to harness data-driven insights effectively.
Regular travel to our Windsor and London offices will be required.Leading, mentoring, and developing a skilled data engineering teamDefining and executing the data engineering strategy in alignment with organisational goalsCollaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to understand data requirementsArchitecting and maintaining robust data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehousesEvaluating and selecting appropriate data storage, processing, and integration technologiesEstablishing best practices for scalability, performance, and cost-effectivenessDeveloping and enforcing data governance and management policiesPartnering with data science and analytics teams to deliver clean, high-quality dataMonitoring infrastructure performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing optimisationsAdvanced academic background in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related fieldExperience building large-scale analytics platforms from the ground upKnowledge of real-time data processing, streaming technologies, and data modellingUnderstanding of data governance frameworks and compliance standardsExtensive experience in data engineering, including leadership in complex, enterprise-scale environmentsProven ability to deploy data products through development stages into production, with monitoring and observability toolsDeep technical expertise in PySpark, SQL, Java, Spark, Databricks, dbt, AWS, and AzureExperience with orchestration and CI/CD tools such as Airflow, Databricks Workflows, and Azure DevOpsStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to optimise data processesIf you''re full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
