Probation Officer

Red Snapper Recruitment is currently seeking a qualified Probation Officer to join a busy and supportive probation team in Sheffield PDU.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner to return to frontline practice in a structured and collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for sentence management work, overseeing a varied caseload of people on probation, including those assessed as high or very high risk. The role will involve assessment, risk management, report writing, inter-agency liaison, and supporting rehabilitation goals.
This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. The position is full time, 37 hours per week, and will require occasional travel for which costs will be covered.
Job Summary
- Location: 45 Division Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire
- Contract Type: Temporary, 8 weeks initially with potential extension until 31.03.26
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Rate: -21.75 p/h PAYE or -28.64 p/h Umbrella
- Working Pattern: Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days remote
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise a caseload of individuals on probation, including those subject to community orders, licences, and custodial sentences.
- Complete assessments and produce high-quality written reports for courts, the Parole Board, and other agencies.
- Attend and contribute to key risk and safeguarding forums such as MAPPA and MARAC.
- Use case management systems to record interventions, progress, and risk updates accurately and promptly.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies, and services to manage risk, reduce reoffending, and support rehabilitation.
- Undertake prison visits, home visits, and other off-site meetings where required.
Essential Requirements
- Professional Qualification in Probation (DipPS, DipSW with PQF, or equivalent recognised by HMPPS).
- Experience of managing complex cases and applying professional judgment in risk assessment and sentence planning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
- Confident working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
