Legal Counsel

We are looking for an individual who will play a key role in a variety of work, including negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, advising on corporate transactions, supporting expansion into new territories, handling disputes, considering novel areas of law and their impact on the business, or responding to major global events. Our in-house legal department supports the International division across the UK, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Canada.We are a lean, actively engaged team that focuses on high-risk, high-value areas where we can add strategic benefit. We work closely with underwriters, claims adjusters, directors, and the strategy and finance teams, sometimes with external advisers. We support ongoing development and training in legal, commercial, and professional skills, and maintain a hybrid, flexible work schedule.What you’ll be doing

Support on strategic corporate projects, including MandA.Review, negotiate and agree other commercial and insurance-related contracts.Be open to learning about different areas of law as required and directly support a wide range of internal stakeholders.Be the link between the business and external lawyers, in the UK and in jurisdictions around the world.Analyse the impact to the business of UK and international legislative and regulatory developments.Our must-haves

A UK legal qualification and legal experience in or advising a regulated industry. Insurance experience is ideal but not essential.Have drafting and negotiating experience with commercial contracts.Be adept at supporting and delivering projects, able to work autonomously and take initiative.Be confident in advising and communicating with key stakeholders, translating legal ideas to a real-world context both verbally and in writing.Be able to manage a mixed portfolio of work, pivoting according to changing priorities.Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail.Be flexible, pragmatic, ready to solve problems and willing to work on a wide range of projects.Who we are
