We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused

Class Underwriter – North American Property Binders

to lead and manage our North American property binder portfolio. This is a key role with responsibility for underwriting oversight, strategy, and performance of delegated authority programmes. You will work closely with broker partners, MGAs, and internal stakeholders to deliver profitable growth in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.What will make you successful in the role?

Key Responsibilities:Lead the underwriting of North American property risks under delegated authority agreements (binders), ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.Drafting and agreeing the underwriting philosophy and appetite with the Active UnderwriterAct as both a lead and follower of credible leaders providing accretive capacitySet and maintain underwriting strategy, appetite, work with the pricing actuary to establish credible rating models, and acceptance criteria for property binders. This may also include an element of MTC/FTC in harder market pricing conditions.Provide technical underwriting support to delegated partners and ensure adherence to referral and authority frameworks.Work closely with claims and exposure management functions to analyse the book and adjust strategy and appetite to maximise underwriting profits and balance in the book.Provide information on the portfolio and develop best-in-class data for reinsurance buying decisions and placement.Broker and MGA Relationship Management

Develop and manage strong broker and MGA relationships, focusing on growth, retention, and profitability.Assess and negotiate new binder opportunities.Act as the primary contact for coverholders on underwriting matters, including compliance and audits.Travel as required to coverholder offices and market conventions to ensure alignment of objectives and performance.Establish a framework and monitor performance of delegated portfolios using MI, loss ratio trends, and exposure analysis.Identify and act on underperforming binders, including remediation actions and potential exits.Contribute to business planning, pricing reviews, and catastrophe appetite management decisions.Governance and Compliance

Ensure binders are structured and operated in line with Lloyd’s best practices and internal policies.Participate in due diligence and annual reviews of existing and prospective coverholders.Support audit processes, conduct file reviews, random sample risk reviews and lead on internal governance documentation.Internal Collaboration

Liaise with claims, compliance, actuarial, and finance teams to ensure holistic portfolio oversight.Collaborate with wording specialists to maintain and update product documentation.Contribute to underwriting committees and strategic planning sessions.Manage and support the team with their career aspirations and development.Qualifications and Experience

10+ Years ExperienceExperience of underwriting commercial/homeowners/lender placed lines within the North American market.Solid knowledge of North American risks, policy wordings, and regulatory environment.Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with commercial awareness.Excellent communication and negotiation skills, particularly with brokers and coverholders.Proficiency in relevant underwriting systems and Microsoft Office.Progress toward professional qualifications (e.g. ACII) preferred.Knowledge and Skills
