Senior Dietitian Critical Care

OverviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and dynamic Dietitian to join our team of over 65 Dietetic staff at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a motivated and experienced dietitian to join our Critical Care Dietetic Team. The post is a permanent contract dedicated to the dietetic support of the Adult Critical Care patients at Kings College Hospital (at the Denmark Hill site). You will be managed by the clinical lead specialist in Critical Care (Band 8a) and Critical Care dietitians (3.0 WTE Band 7) on supporting dietetic services for critically ill patients.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop their clinical skills to provide specialist care for critically ill patients including Major Trauma, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Spinal injuries, Neurology, HPB and Liver, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Respiratory Medicine, Orthopaedics, Haematology, Renal Medicine, General Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis. Dietetics within Critical Care is a well-established service within Kings. Kings Critical Care is a world-class centre, one of the biggest in the country with 94 ventilated beds at the DH site. We have a brand new Critical Care Centre with 4 new state of the art Intensive Care Units. Kings Critical Care is a dynamic service with MDT patient care at the heart of its service.
Responsibilities
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of work in compliance with the ethical code of practice set out by the Health and Care Professions Council
Formulate and deliver individual dietetic treatment plans for critically ill patients based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of a wide range of dietetic treatments for critically ill patients
Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment regimens as required
To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload with the support of more senior staff
Work within Trust clinical guidelines and to have good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor quality of practice as appropriate
To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of practice
QualificationsEssential
BSc/ Post graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
HCPC registered
Experience of working within the specialist area of Critical Care in the NHS
Experience of nutrition support, especially Enteral Nutrition within Critical Care
Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
Membership of an appropriate professional development group e.g. critical care specialist group of the BDA
Experience in Parenteral Nutrition in the acute setting
