40 hours per week (08:00 to 16:30) with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break. Flexibility on these times is essential.
Main purpose of role
To direct, coordinate and support with planning of vehicle departures and liaising with the driver team on day-to-day vehicle and logistics issues within Vegetarian Express, involving all transportation activities. Support the Transport Manager ensuring the legal requirements for transport are met. To support resource planning to maintain a stable distribution network across all delivery scheduling and be the focal point for driver colleagues, providing robust advice and clear communication about requirements to drivers and the Transport Manager.

Vegetarian Express specialise in delivering plant-based ingredients, ideas and inspiration to chefs across the UK for eating out of home. They supply more than 4,000 skilled chefs from customers such as Compass, Baxterstorey and CHandCo, as well as independent operators. Vegetarian Express work with customers to create plant-based menus that are enticing and commercially viable.
Key responsibilitiesSupport, direct and monitor driver colleagues and the transport team to increase efficiency and maximise service and value.
Ensure the transport team understands their duties within the organisation.
Provide swift response to absences and ensure seamless impact on customers.
Support scheduling for driver holidays or absences.
Develop new initiatives to optimise transport activities and meet targets.
Ensure smooth running of vehicles and the team.
Contribute to training and development of the team and department.
Support the Transport Manager and ensure drivers have up-to-date qualifications.
Maintain and complete accurate records with the Transport Operation Planner and Transport Manager.
Support other departments with transport issues.
Ensure customers receive orders on time and without delays or extra costs.
Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to identify vulnerabilities and close distribution gaps.
Identify pinch points and remove obstacles; participate in special projects as required.

Candidate criteria
Qualifications
Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
No driving disqualifications within the last three years

Excellent customer service and attention to detail
Ability to drive long distances and be comfortable sitting for extended periods
Experience and other requirementsMinimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (references checked)
Experience in a multi-drop environment
Must be 21 years of age or older to comply with insurance requirements
May involve lifting heavy products and climbing in/out of company vehicles
